Super Eight Radio #2

Grenoble, France.
1. M83 – Saturdays = Youth
Another epic tearjerking long player filled with M83′s trademark emotional drama. The dynamics are more varied this time around moving through screams and whispers and moments that evoke classic Seefeel, Slowdive, and Spiritualized – but in the end, M83 sounds like nobody else.
2. Basic Channel – Quadrant Dub, Inversion, Phylyps Trak
They haven’t put out anything new in over a decade, but somehow they keep getting better.
3. Can – Ege Bamyasi
36 years old and perfect in 2008. Everytime I hear it, I come away with a new favorite song. This time it’s “I’m So Green.” Last month it was “Vitamin C”, and before that it was “Spoon”.
4. Julius Steinhoff & Hammouda – Tonight Will Be Fine
Deep and plush, like vintage Moodymann crashing a Chain Reaction party. “You Are” is a state of the art classic. Many thanks to Ronan Fitzgerald for turning me onto this record.
5. Lawrence – Lowlights from the Past & Future
I’ve played Pantha Du Prince’s This Bliss to a pulp, so this is satisfying my brood house needs until the next Dial release…
Lawrence – Untitled
(Mule Electronic, 2006)
6. Boraxx – Secret Unreleased Tracks
Coming soon. In the meantime, in case you missed these two…
7. Chocolate – Trumpet En Montuno / Guajira
Perfect Saturday night rooftop music. Play it loud and let those horns slide down the block.
Chocolate – Trumpet En Montuna
(from Son Cubano NYC. Honest Jon’s)
8. Mara Trax – The Rhythm from …It Got Me Funk
Heavy polished minimal with a terrific rubberband sound.
